School Info

Filleigh Community Primary School is a small village school with a roll of approximately 100 children. We are comprised of four classes: Foxes has our pre-school and reception; Butterflies has years 1 and 2; Buzzards has years 3 and 4; Stags has years 5 and 6. The Pre-School is open to children age 3 and over, please contact the office for the latest availability.

In addition to our four classes we have a central library that is very well stocked; class libraries in each class room; a food technology area; an art and design technology area; mobile computing resources; two playgrounds; a forest school area; trim trail and large school field. We also benefit from regular use of the Village Hall and additional links with the local church and Castle Hill Estate, whose stunning grounds we are set in.

We have excellent transport links. We are five minutes from the A361 and a short drive from the market town of South Molton, which contains the secondary school where most of our children choose for the next step in their education.

We have our own forest school area  which is helped to be maintained and resourced by the PTA (Parent Teacher Association). All children have the opportunity to experience forest school activities with our own Forest School trained member of staff. As we are so close to Exmoor National Park and the stunning North Devon coastline, learning through the environment is important to us.

As a school we are rich in history, the heart of the school is a Victorian building dating back to 1862. The school was established by Hugh Fortescue, in memory of his second son, John. Filleigh became a county school in 1932.

We are part of a well-established federation of five other schools: Spreyton, Shute, Copplestone and Kilmington. We share a single senior leadership team and governing body, sharing expertise across our schools.

Celebration of children’s success is important. Every week we have a special Celebration Assembly where we reward children who uphold our Star Values of Perseverance, Behaviour and Achievement as well as recognise each class’ Star of the Week. As a school we actively teach through a growth mindset where we believe that all children can achieve to the highest standards.

As well as teaching all subjects required by the National Curriculum we employ a peripatetic music teacher.  We offer a breakfast club and a range of after school clubs (for current availability contact the school’s office).

For further enquiries please get in touch through the school’s office.
